Many
sources confirm three of the most
critical benefit issues employers are all facing
this year are Quality, Administration, and
Cost Management.
There are elements of CDHC that address each of these issues:
Cost Management -- the fundamental goal of consumerism
is to create greater individual accountability and awareness of cost and quality
issues. The belief is the consumer is the great untapped resource in cost
reduction.
Administration -- enhanced consumerism supports an
increase in self-service. Web and telephonic tools abound, incentives to manage
health care on a personalized basis are creative and open access to care alleviates
member dissatisfaction.
Quality -- information and education are key elements
of CDHC. Provider value (cost and quality) information, health risk assessment
tools, personalized and targeted health information, disease and condition
management programs, are all critical to the success of this new consumerism.
